Domaine Meyer-Fonne Pfoeller Riesling 2011
Felix Meyer is a master at the art of blending and carefully applies this skill in blending the wine from various parcels into complex, balanced cuvees. He also believes in raising his wines on fine lees in large, older wooden casks, as the tradition in Alsace. Striking aromatics, beautiful complexity and a signature mineral spine characterize all of Meyer's wines. Bright and elegant, the wines offer tremendous drinking at a young age but have all the right qualities for laying down in the cellar.
The calcareous Muschelkalk terroir of Pfoeller bestows upon the wine a pure nose with notes of citrus peel and chalky stones. The palate has a clean attack, distinguished, and an athletic acidity. As a slowly developing wine this is a riesling without compromise for the enlightened connoisseur.
